The Beginning – A Dream and a Coil of Steel

1979: President Jimmy Carter proposes a national holiday for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Americans dance to the hit song, “YMCA,” by the Village People. The Cray Supercomputer handles 80 million operations per second – and costs a cool $8 million apiece. (The computer sitting on your desk today processes about 100 million operations per second.)

In the midst of the changing landscape of 1979 America, young Dennis Leebow made a phone call from a telephone booth in New Haven, Connecticut. His goal was to sell one truckload of steel and put the profits into a new company he was starting back in his adopted hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.

Dennis had learned about the steel business from his time at Baldwin Steel Company, a family business founded by his grandfather. Later he embarked on a new journey that became the Majestic Steel that we know today. Majestic Steel now embodies the American Dream and entrepreneurial spirit.

Majestic Grows as a Family…and as a Company

As Dennis Leebow’s family grew, so did the Majestic Steel family. What started out as a business focused on galvanized distribution to the HVAC market is now recognized as a leading steel service center providing prime, flat-rolled product to numerous industries across the nation. Majestic became a unique, value-added business model for the steel industry. It reduced lead times, gave customers greater purchasing flexibility, and acted as its customers’ supply chain management solution company.

Majestic Today…Majestic Tomorrow

Three of Dennis Leebow’s sons – Jonathan, Matthew and Todd – became part of the Majestic family over the past dozen years. Each Leebow brother has a vested interest in the success of Majestic, and each supports the other in various facets of the company.

Just as the computer changed the world, evolving from 1979’s “supercomputer” – available to only a few companies, to an essential tool for business and personal development – today’s generation of Leebows continues to evolve Majestic’s leadership in the steel business.

Combining the best of the old values of integrity and hard work with innovation in ways never seen by the steel industry – such as being on the leading edge in web technology, leveraging social media, and through strategic market research – The Leebow family has created a modern version of their father’s American Dream. They’ve invested in their employees at Majestic. And it shows in the continued growth and success of one of Northeast Ohio’s Best Workplaces.
