U.S. light vehicle sales increased sharply in December after a decline in November totaling 1.263 million units. This is up 12.2% from November and up 4.9% from 1.204 million units in December 2021 making it the highest monthly sales total since July 2021. Sales have now increased, on a year-over-year basis, for the fifth consecutive month. A sharp increase in light truck sales helped to overcome the decline in car sales. For the full year 2022, light vehicle sales totaled 13.701 million units, down 8.3% from the 14.940 million unit total in 2021.
