Activity in the manufacturing sector continued to grow in August. The ISM Manufacturing Index came in at 52.8, now over 50.0 for twenty-seven consecutive months. After sliding into contraction in July, the new orders component bounced back in August by climbing to 51.3. The backlog of orders component grew at a faster rate in August, climbing to 53.0 from 51.3 previously.
